Description

Two beds in the floor space of one — and the only bunk in our range that comes in Double and Queen.

The ladder runs up the side rather than the end, which keeps the foot of the bed clear and puts the climb where there's room for it. It's also the only configuration we build in Double and Queen, so it's the one to look at if the sleepers are adult-sized.

Why families choose the Side Ladder Bunk

  • Two proper beds in the footprint of one — the original space-saving fix for a shared room
  • Side ladder keeps the foot of the bed clear and open
  • The only bunk configuration available in Double and Queen, so adults and teens are covered too
  • Add underbed drawers for everyday storage, or a trundle for a third sleeper
  • Built to last through the whole of childhood and then some

Choose your setup

  • Size: Single, King Single, Double or Queen
  • Finish: Native Elm, White, Elm + Clear or Nordic
  • Bundle & Save: Add Drawers, or add a Trundle

Good to know

  • King Single variants are shown in Single size and Queen variants in Double size in product images.
  • Bundle & Save: adding the extras here costs less than buying them on their own later, and every bundle comes with free metro delivery. If you already know you'll want the storage or the extra bed, this is the cheapest way to get it.
  • Add a mattress and save: mattresses are bought separately, but adding one to your bed order qualifies the whole order for free metro delivery — and unless the mattress is already on sale, it's discounted too. Sorting it all in one go costs less than coming back for it later.

How it's built

We've used the same construction technique for over 40 years, and you'll find the same strength in a Single Standard Bed as you will in a Queen Loft Bed. The timber is natural, renewable Radiata Pine — the same species holding up the majority of houses across Australia — finished with stain or paint that stands up to everyday life in a kid's room. Slat bases are built from plywood for its reliable weight-bearing properties: 140 x 18mm slats on Single and King Single, and heftier 70 x 34mm slats on Double and Queen. They're left as raw timber so your mattress can breathe.

Backed by our 10-Year Guarantee, with delivery available Australia-wide and our 10-Day Dispatch Guarantee on in-stock items.

Finishes

Stained Timber & Clear Timber
Natural timber variations result in unique tone, depth and grain for every piece of furniture. Colour variations can occur within different batches of product processing

White Finish
A Bunkers product finished in our White finish still has the same solid timber construction underneath. The natural characteristics of your solid pine product can be visible through the paint finish. This includes timber grain, knots and imperfections. Tannins contained within knots may cause a visual yellowing effect through the paint surface over time.

  • Communication with Kirsty was great, and the bed arrived in speedy time (amazingly so for such a large package). I just wanted a simple sturdy 4 legged double bed and this one fits the bill perfectly. I chose the dark brown finish which goes well with my older mid century furniture.

  • We ordered this bed online and the post sales service and delivery was outstanding
Bed was delivered in great condition and daughter is enjoying this sturdy product

  • I was a bit concerned when reading previous reviews on the delivery delays and communication. But I truly could not fault the service. The process was very clearly communicated with emails.
The bed its self is very sturdy and am very happy with the quality. The only down fall was the timely construction of the flat pack but that was also well communicated.

  • Fantastic communication with the bunkers team. This made it way to select the appropriate products and delivery. Construction was easy and we have had so many compliments from friends and family on the comfort as well as the look of our beds.

  • Customer service was great - very prompt to answer any questions and sent me a whole set of drawer fronts after one was damaged in transit. The beds themselves are minimalist and easy to match with our decor.

  • We got the long wall mid line bunk for our 4yo and 2yo to share. Both me and my husband had bunker beds as kids and the quality and sturdiness remains very high! The customer service was excellent too. Instructions easy to follow in set up.
Thanks for continuing to provide a great product!

    January 2026

  • Did a lot of research about a loft bed with desk and shelves underneath. Went with Bunkers as seemed to be more sturdy and suitable for an older teenager than other retailers, including that northern European behemoth. Very happy we went with Bunkers. Great outcome. Good instructions. Solid furniture. Son very happy.

  • 100% happy with our Bunkers Bunk. It is sturdy, well made and can see it will last.

    January 2026

  • The entire process of selecting, buying, receiving and then building a set of double over double bunk beds could not have been easier or more pleasant. We wanted to change the colour of the beds after purchase and with a single email this was resolved.

When were were selecting mattresses from a store, I e-mail Bunkers to see what their recommended height was for the mattresses was for the top bunk. I got an email back with an answer from Kirsty within 5 minutes while we were still at the store with an answer.

I usually get frustrated at putting together furniture but assembly was really simple easy to understand and with very well made materials. I had a question as there aren’t pre drilled holes in some part and I wanted to double check. Again with a quick call, Kirsty again answered all my questions with valid reasons as to why the holes aren’t pre drilled.

My boys are very excited to sleep in their new beds and I’m very grateful for how easy this whole process was from start to finish due to great service and a top product.

  • We purchased a 3 in 1 bunk bed from Bunkers. At all times we were kept informed of when our order would come. The bunk set was easy to put together by my husband and son. The delivery guys were great and very helpful with moving the parcels to where the beds were to be set up. The bunks and their mattresses are top quality and we are very happy and satisfied customers and would recommend Bunkers to anyone wanting a quality product.

All of our bed products are manufactured with the same construction technique that we've been famous for, for over 40 years!

Our Bunks are then finished with stains or paint (white range) to provide a proven layer of protection that stands the test of time - and many many other tests that are in the everyday life of a Bunk Bed!!!

All of our slat bases, are constructed with Plywood for its reliable strength properties.

Thick 5mm MDF is used across our drawer box bases and cabinet backs - *deep drawer units are also supported with extra base bracing.
